There are few game day environments as exciting and as electric as a Saturday in Athens. Between the hedges at Sanford Stadium is THE place to be for not only some of the country’s best college football, but also some of the best tailgating and get-togethers you’ll find anywhere.
The festivities begin on Friday night with a sampling of the Athens world-renowned music scene. Clubs such as the 40 Watt Club, The Manhattan Cafe, the Caledonia Lounge and the Georgia Theater have all been “home” at one time or another to such local acts as REM, the B-52s, Bubba Sparxxx, Danger Mouse, Matthew Sweet and Pylon.
On Saturday, the area around the Stadium is filled as early as 10AM with every type of vehicle imaginable along with the aroma of Southern-style specialties. Come hungry and open-minded (or open-palated) because you won’t be able to resist.
Whether the opponent is Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama or Georgia Tech, the music, the food and the sea of red and black make it impossible to not be swept up in the atmosphere, and when Uga trots out through the massive “G” banner, you’ll find yourself barking along with 92,746 other rabid supporters as they anticipate another Dawg victory.
